Late-Night TV Music (Back in Bathrobes Edition) | March 30, 2020

Jeff Tweedy, Weird Al and OneRepublic bring tunes back to the tube.

And we’re back! Well, more or less. After two weeks in limbo, the late-night talk shows returned en masse on Monday, with hosts working from makeshift home offices just like you and me — though I must admit I’m glad I don’t have to wear a suit and get made up to do an awkward standup routine to a camera in my empty garage. Thankfully, a few of them managed to incorporate some home-made musical segments / rock-star crib visits into the mix. Best of the lot: A bathrobe-clad Jeff Tweedy on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, offering a solo acoustic rendition of Evergreen in his family bathroom while his sons perched beside him in the tub. Also going it alone — and also sporting the already-cliche bathrobe — was ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic, who sang the doo-wop breakup song One More Minute for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The Jimster also welcomed OneRepublic, who played Didn’t I from Ryan Tedder’s studio. They get zero point for social distancing, but on the plus side, at least they weren’t wearing bathrobes. Stay tuned for more informal performances (and hopefully, some better wardrobe choices) as the week goes on.
