What’s your definition of a good day? Mine includes any afternoon when I hear about the imminent arrival of a new Rory Gallagher live album. Case in point: The late Irish blues-rock guitar hero’s latest posthumous release, the superbly titled Check Shirt Wizard: Live In ‘77, hits the shelves on March 6. According to the press release: “This 20-song, previously unreleased, set is culled from four shows (London, Brighton, Sheffield and Newcastle) during an early 1977 tour across the U.K. in support of Rory’s then-latest album Calling Card. Featuring fantastic live versions of tracks from that album as well as songs from the 1975 Against The Grain album and other live favourites.” Count me in. Of course, your day might be improved by word of new music from Daniel Johnston, Grouplove, Thundercat and more — in which case you’re in luck.
