Don’t say The Hold Steady never did anything for you. Just in time for the holidays, singer-guitarist Craig Finn and the indie-rock vets have released two new live albums, and you can name your own price for both.
The first show, Live in London 3-8-19, was recorded in March at London’s Electric Ballroom on the opening night of the Brooklyn rockers’ annual Weekender residency, according to The Hold Steady’s Bandcamp page. “We walked on stage to the Pink Panther theme and when we went into Constructive Summer, we were reminded that London audiences are always incredible. The set was a blast and included The Last Time That She Talked To Me, which had been released just before this show. Mosh Pit Josh helped us close down the night in the encore. Great evening, can’t wait to do it again in March 2020!”
The second set, Toronto 9/14/18, captures a show at the city’s Horseshoe Tavern. “Toronto 9/14/18 at Horseshoe Tavern has us on a Friday night at one of our all time favorite clubs. The energy at the shows is always incredible. We opened with Adderall and pulled out a rarity in Ascension Blues pretty early. This was definitely a Friday night vibe and I still remember the special vibe at these Toronto shows. Chicago Seemed Tired in the encore, but Toronto seemed very very up for it. Great show.”
Both shows will be available as a pay-as-you want download for a limited time, according to the band. “We’ll have some more surprises in the coming weeks and months and if you choose to download these recordings, the money will go towards continuing to record and release as many of the live events as possible and any additional funds will go to the K+L Guardian Foundation.”
