Late-Night TV Music (Pop Edition) | May 16, 2019

Head & The Heart, BNL, Carly Rae, Ciara and more lighten up Thursday night.

If you don’t like pop, you’ve come to the wrong place. And no, I’m not talking about soda. Or your dad. Like M, I’m talking about pop, pop, pop muzik. Because that’s what dominated the late-night proceedings on Thursday. The most tolerable example from my perspective: Indie outfit The Head And the Heart’s performance of Missed Connection on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. And you couldn’t fault Barenaked Ladies’ live rendition of The Big Bang Theory theme song — part of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’s tribute to the just-wrapped comedy series. Less enjoyable were teen-centric offerings like Carly Rae Jepsen’s Too Much on The Late Late Show With James Corden and Ciara’s clothing jingle Thinkin Bout You on Jimmy Kimmel Live, augmented by 15 minutes of unaired footage. If you wanted some rock, you had one option: Former Dead Confederate frontman T. Hardy Morris, cranking out My Me and When the Record Skips on Last Call With Carson Daly. Hey, take what you can get.
