This came out in 2005 — or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):
When established artists release self-titled albums, they’re often trying to reinvent (or at least rebrand) themselves.
Not Jann Arden; her seventh disc of heartbroken pop has all the glistening melody and tragic yearning you’d expect from the woman who wrote I Would Die For You (which she reworks here with Sarah McLachlan). What you might not expect is that Arden rocks out a little more than she has recently, setting all that lyrical melancholy against some seriously crunchy guitars and solid beats. It isn’t reinvention, but it might qualify as rejuvenation.
