tinvìs Is Caught In An Echo

The California singer-songwriter is on the move but getting nowhere fast.

tinvìs is going around in circles in his hazy and hypnotic new single and video Echo — showcasing today on Tinnitist.

The second preview of California singer-songwriter Joel Daniel’s upcoming album Texnia — his debut release as tinvìsEcho finds him wandering a musical dreamscape in search of direction and connection. Rooted in introspection and movement, the song was written during a period of constant travel between California and Texas, capturing the feeling of existing in two places at once — yet belonging to neither.

The fittingly titled Texnia marks a milestone for Daniel, whose years in the Davis / Sacramento music scene have been shaped by a unique blend of indie-rock influences. Blending elements of contemporary Bob Dylan, vintage Neil Young and the sonic textures of Wild Pink and Radiohead, Daniel’s songwriting also nods to the influence of modern female singer-songwriters like Phoebe Bridgers, Ex:Re, Flock of Dimes and Adrianne Lenker. The result is a collection of songs rich with melancholy, nostalgia, and cautious optimism — reflections of the expansive landscapes between Texas and California.

For Texnia, Daniel collaborated with an impressive lineup of musicians, including producer Max Hart (War on Drugs, Katy Perry, We Are Scientists), lead guitarist Luke Reynolds (Guster, Sharon Van Etten, Brett Dennen), and drummer Eric Gardner (Tom Morello, Melissa Etheridge). A significant portion of the album was recorded in Austin, Texas, at Ramble Creek Studio with Britton Beisenherz (Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Will Johnson).
