Julian Taylor & More Are Down For Celebrations & Revelations 2025

Taylor, Tania Joy, Knule & Ahi close out Black History with a Feb. 28 gig in Toronto.

Julian Taylor will hit the stage to celebrate Black History Month on Feb. 28 — and he won’t be along. Taylor will join fellow musicians Tania Joy, Kunle and Ahi at The Globe and Mail Centre, 17th floor, in downtown Toronto, and promises to deliver an evening filled with excitement and discovery.

Taylor is a versatile and celebrated artist based in Toronto, known for his soulful blend of folk, rock, and R&B. With a career spanning decades, he has earned critical acclaim for his deep and profound lyrics, rich vocals, and dynamic performances. A member of the Toronto music scene since his teenage years, Taylor gained recognition as a member of Staggered Crossing before launching a successful solo career. His work, including albums like The Ridge, often explores themes of identity, heritage, and personal growth, reflecting his mixed Mohawk and West Indian roots.

Taylor’s music has garnered multiple awards and nominations, affirming his status as a prominent figure in Canadian music. He recently garnered a 2025 Juno nomination for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year for his latest album Pathways. He also became the recipient of the King Charles III Coronation Medal that is awarded to those who have made a significant and valuable contribution to Canada or to a particular province, territory, region or community of Canada, or have made an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada. “I’m so touched by this prestigious award that was graciously bestowed upon me and 13 others” he said. “Never in my wildest dreams did I expect this.”

Other artists performing at Celebrations and Revelations 2025 include:

Tania Joy

Tania Joy has been using the last few years to hone her songwriting, finally following up her 2013 EP I’ll Be Around, with the release of her EP I Will Stand, produced by 2022 Juno winner Hill Kourkoutis (Digging Roots, Leela Gilday). She’s a multi-talented artist who played with Serena Ryder and was in The Weeknd’s original backing band.

Kunle

Dubbed the “Afro-Folk Prince,” Kunle is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter. His folk and soul music bridges contemporary styles with roots in West African rhythms and stories. Nigerian-born and currently based in Toronto, Kunle brings together his rich vocals, guitar tapping, harmonica, and talking drum, to take audiences into what he terms “music with no boundaries.”

Ahi

Ahkinoah Habah Izarh, better known by the stage name Ahi, is a conscious, heartfelt singer-songwriter. He has been a two-time Juno Award nominee for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year, receiving nods at the awards in 2019 for his album In Our Time and in 2022 for his album Prospect. “I write the songs I need to hear,” he says. “I share them just in case someone else might need them too.”

Presented by Joy Bullen Culturepreneur, the show starts at 7:30 p.m. with a reception at 6:30 pm. Tickets for Celebrations & Revelations cost $45 and are available HERE.
