Now See Hear | Jon Spencer On KEXP

The blues-punk evangelist & his new rhythm section shiver your timbers on the air.

Like many, I was exceedingly bummed to find out a while back that the most excellent teenage rockin’ combo known as The Bobby Lees had called it quits. But as they say, when a door closes, a window opens. And in this case, that window is named Jon Spencer.

The singer / guitarist / producer / rock ’n’ roll evangelist / former member of Pussy Galore, Boss Hog, Heavy Trash and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion — and not by coindence, the man who produced The Bobby Lees’ 2023 studio swan song Skin Suit — has hired the band’s powerhouse drummer Macky Spider Bowman and fretburning bass goddess Kendall Wind as his new rhythm section on his superior recent return to rockin’ form Sick Of Being Sick. But the sheer gawddamm brilliance of that move comes throught even louder and clearer this all-killer no-filler live set from the fine folks at KEXP — which includes a cameo from garage-punk legend Ty Wagner to boot. If this doesn’t shiver your timbers, knock your socks and rotate your tires every bit as hard as anything Jonny boy has ever done, I’ll be a monkey’s left nut. To quote the man hisself: Watch out, baby!
