Classic Album Review: Vav Jungle | Canadiana Striptease

This came out in 2005 — or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

STYLE: Electro-cute.

SOUNDS LIKE: Mating season at the analog synthesizer preserve.

POINTED COMMENTS: One-woman dance party Eve Rice is at it again. On her latest Vav Jungle disc Canadiana Striptease, the electro-pop queen once again programs her beatboxes, samplers, sequencers and synths to churn out futuristic robo-porn soundtracks and space-age glitter-ball ditties guaranteed to get you bobbing your beehive and shaking your bubble butt. So climb into those platform shoes, dig that white disco suit out of mothballs and get down with your bad self. Welcome back to the jungle, baby.

STANDOUTS: Funky bloopfests like Fake Fur Pile and Set Me On Fire will heat you up, while the Asian swirl of Corrupt or Fu Hai Shi Ta will cool you down.
