Classic Album Review: Cam’ron | Purple Haze

The harlem rapper's inscrutable rhymes are undercut by his underwhelming tracks.

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Half the time, you don’t know what the heck bizarre Harlem hip-hopper Cam’ron is jabbering about.

But even at their most inscrutable, Cam’s couplets are a cut above the underwhelming backing tracks and WTF samples (Cyndi Lauper? Hill Street Blues?) on this irritatingly inconsistent 77-minute set.
