The rising singer-songwriter — whose musical roots span Portugal and the U.K. — offers a poignant yet comforting ballad capturing the melancholy and warmth of winter love for his latest release. Drawing on the influence of acoustic singer-songwriter styles, indie charm, and vintage musical aesthetics, December Blues gives listeners a timeless, intimate reflection on how love can brighten even the coldest days.
“Growing up in Portugal, winter was always mild,” he says. “Moving to the U.K., I experienced a whole new level of winter cold, and I began to understand what people meant by ‘December blues.’ This song became an expression of how love and connection can be a remedy for that winter loneliness.” The collaboration with Chevy, an artist leo. has admired for years, adds depth and authenticity to the track, creating a heartfelt duet that brings the song’s warmth to life.
December Blues features lush, live strings arranged by Alistair Kerley and a beautifully executed jazz piano by Nico Widdowson, giving the song a vintage, jazzy holiday feel. The track was produced and mixed by Ed Allen, leo.‘s longtime collaborator, known for his work in blending modern and classic sounds. Emerging from rigorous classical training, leo. recorded his first single in 2018 from his bedroom in Portugal.
