Classic Anthology Review: Neil Young | Greatest Hits

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

It has taken Neil Young a mere 27 years to follow up his last compilation Decade — which, honestly, isn’t too bad for the mercurical singer-songwriter.

Songs: 16.

Actual Hits: Pretty much every track here, from Cinnamon Girl and Ohio to Like a Hurricane and Rockin’ in the Free World.

Missing In Action: Sugar Mountain, Tonight’s the Night, Mr. Soul, Cortez the Killer and a ton of others. Which raises the question: Why isn’t this set two discs? Or three? Or even that 10-disc box set Neil’s been working on forever?

Extras! Extras! Not a thing — he is Neil Young, after all — though the limited-edition version includes a disc with DVD-audio versions of the tunes.
