Classic Christmas Album Review: Various Artists | The Polar Express Soundtrack

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

The ghosts of Christmas albums past hitch a ride with new tunes and instrumental suites on this soundtrack to Tom Hanks’ animated flick.

CHESTNUTS ROASTED: Bing Crosby’s White Christmas and Here Comes Santa Claus; The Andrews SistersWinter Wonderland; Perry Como’s It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas; Kate Smith’s Silver Bells; Frank Sinatra’s Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

YULE LOVE: New material like Hanks’ peppy title cut and Hot Chocolate; Steven Tyler’s Rockin’ on Top of the World.

YULE WISH: This unfocused set had a better sense of direction — between the swelling score, the swinging’ oldies and the kid-friendly new material, it’s easy to get lost.
