Corduroy Cat cover the sonic and stylistic spectrum on their dynamic and diverse new album Love And Lament — showcasing today on Tinnitist.
The sophomore album from the Chicagoland indie-rockers — and the sequel to their Steve Albini-recorded 2022 debut 10% Hopeful — is aimed at fans of independent music, folks who support passionate artists doin it their own way, and those who enjoy emotionally reflective, intimate songwriting. From the noirish cowpunk twang of Phantom Horses and the jangly indie-rock of Adore Me! to the fuzzy funkified blast of A Monkey Like Me and the cinematic complexity of the closing cut St. Vitus Day, Love And Lament puts the band’s musical range squarely and solidly at the front and center of the action.
Their ambitious commitment to artistic variety is not something they take lightly. The quartet have been making their own melodies, quilting together the scraps of sound into a unique blend of indie music since their earliest days. 10% Hopeful gave them a stable base from which to depart, and now they are back to expand their horizons (and yours) with their raw emotions and rich melodies.
Corduroy Cat formed in 2020. With influences that range from jazz to hardcore punk, the music that comes out of their creative union feels familiar but new. They have been compared to Wilco, Tom Petty and The War On Drugs. They have been building a foundation and have played The Montrose Saloon, Chicago St. Pub and The Hideout. They have been featured on Thursday Night Live on WZRD and have played at two Record Store Days at Audiophil’s Records. Their audience keeps growing.
