The Ilario Ferrari Trio take you high Above The Clouds and back down to earth with their uplifting, thoughtful and gorgeous new album — showcasing today on Tinnitist.
The fourth studio album from the Italian singer-pianist and his rhythm section, the 10-track Above The Clouds deftly and delicately blends contemporary instrumental jazz with pop melodies and vocal harmonies, incorporating classical nuances and influences from both Indian culture and his South Italian heritage. Ilario’s style is perfectly complemented by his two well-known collaborators and rising jazz stars: Drummer Katie Patterson and bassist Charlie Pyne. The latter recently released her own album Nature Is A Mother (also featuring Patterson on drums), which has received praise from both media and fans.
Relationships of many kinds lie at the heart of this new record: As you might expect from the title, some songs examine our connection to the planet, while others celebrate the musical and personal bonds between the bandmembers and their loved ones. The album also deals with elevation and observation, soaring Above The Clouds and the grounded embrace of Mother Earth to offer impressions of love, loss, and home — all expressed through a beguiling blend of vocal-led songs and instrumentals.
This recording expands beyond the typical borders of a jazz trio album, with the bandmembers expanding and contracting as each song requires. The Ilario Ferrari Trio’s innovative approach combined with their indisputable skill promises to be a breath of fresh air in the jazz world and beyond.
