The Grindhouse | Super Monster Party, Insurrection, Whiskey Of Blood & More New Heaviness

Fun fact: The Guinness Record for most weight lifted belongs to Canadian strongman Gregg Ernst, who once hoisted 2,422.2 kilos (5,340 pounds). But I bet today’s crop of new metal videos and singles are too heavy even for him. Push play and see for yourself — but remember to use your legs:

Super Monster Party | Blue Hurricane

THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE:Super Monster Party are a band for all video game nerds, jump’n’run enthusiasts, metalheads, ’90s kids, weirdos and everyone between — a metal band all about video games, singing from the hero’s or villain’s  PoV. They even have their own free jump’n’run game Permadeath — with a soundtrack of their tracks, natch. Basically, SMP are like what your dearest classic games would sound like if they’d grown up with you over the years, while the lyrics take you on a captivating journey into the mind of your favourite characters. In the leadup to their new album Rage Quit on Nov. 11, Super Monster Party drop their new video Blue Hurricane just in time for Sonic the Hedgehog’s 33rd birthday. The soundtrack of the beloved jump’n’run game undoubtedly has a special place in a lot of hearts, but Blue Hurricane serves as an outstanding example of what the game could sound like when fully leaning into the little hedgehog’s fierce badassness.”

Insurrection | Honest Trailer

THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “As fans of the famously funny Honest Trailers YouTube series, the groovy and heavy-hitting death metal outfit Insurrection have created their own “honest trailer” for their latest music video The Gathering, unleashed in September in support of their new album Obsolescence. The trailer shows that in addition to delivering heavy riffs and bashing drums to fans, the bandmates are also more than capable of delivering a few laughs at their own expense. Vocalist Stef Jomphe comments: “We had a ton of fun shooting the video for The Gathering and couldn’t just waste the three-plus hours we had on tape. We’re all fans of YouTube series like Honest Trailers, so it just made sense to put this together. Plus Mart’s voice was made for this job.”

Whisky Of Blood | Nothing More

THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE:Whisky Of Blood are a band born from the desire to return to the roots of ’80s rock, describing their sound as rock ’n’ roll, full of melodies, powerful, and funny. Today, they share the video for Nothing More off their new album Diablesse of Revolution, which features guests Chris Holmes (Ex-W.A.S.P., Mean Man) and Steff Rabilloud (Rising Steel, Urgent). Nothing More is the opener of the album — a very groovy track with an unstoppable chorus and covered with wah-wah, marking a turning point in their career and showing a more mature and varied sound.”

Gigantum | Rock Box

THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “Fans of speedy rock ’n’ roll should get ready to jump into the spinning turbines of L.A.’s Gigantum and their ode to punk rock — their latest video Rock Box. The track amps up to 100 mph for a swift kick in your ass to get your blood pumping. The song is featured on the band’s self-titled debut album, which ranges from straight-up rock to doomy stoner riffs — all featuring creative solos and relatable lyrics. Not held back by limits of genre, Gigantum have a lot of room to evolve — and do so with gusto. “Each song tells its own story and takes you someplace different. They have their own personality. The record’s listening experience takes you on a journey. We are trying to shake the foundation and rattle the windows,” say the band. The EP is recommended for fans of Clutch, Baroness, Royal Thunder and Fu Manchu.”

Atomis | In The Realm Of Hungry Ghosts

THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “In remembrance of their late drummer Nathan Navetto, Calgary’s progressive post-metal act Atomis released The Void Box Set of their complete discography in August. Today, they share the latest video for the track In The Realm of Hungry Ghosts, a very percussive, monotonous, and introspective track. The fretless bass slides are hypnotizing as the guitar slowly builds until it breaks into an ambiance, letting the synth take over.”

WarlocK A.D. | Rothgar Warsong

THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “The time has come for WarlocK A.D.’s sophomore album Book II: The Valley of Vâgené. Over two years in the making, this entry into the saga is bigger, thicker, and more powerful than anything they have brought you before. Set directly after the events of Book I: The Reserrection, the album begins with Whiteacre The Mighty Warlock stranded in a strange new world, powerless and alone. With the help of the elven Prince Quinn Eilianther, Horatus the Mushroom Wizard and Ahriman Cullblade the shadow assassin, Whiteacre begins the long quest to The Valley of Vâgené — said to be the home of a gateway to the vast infinite multiverse. Danger awaits the brave heroes however, for Brittanni is ruled by the tyrannical Dwarf Emperor Thorumm III — who seeks the valley for his own nefarious purposes. The prophesied coming of a stranger to the land of Brittanni has awakened the gateway — and the race to the multiverse has begun…”

As I May | Never Stop Dreaming

THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “Finnish horror squad As I May are back with a killer new single Never Stop Dreaming. The song is inspired by the Nightmare On Elm Street movies and combines modern low riffs with a little taste of deathcore synths to bring horror chills and atmosphere to haunt your listening experience. If ’80s horror movies, downtuned riffs and big choruses are what you’re after, this is for you. The band add: “We all are big fans of Nightmare On Elm Street movies. Those were the first real horror movies when we were kids. I think maybe a couple of us were too young to watch those movies and also got nightmares from them, so Freddy has stayed with us all this time.”
