Albums Of The Week: Honeyglaze | Real Deal

THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE:Honeyglaze’s second album Real Deal feels like their coming-of-age moment. The band have taken the foundations laid on their critically acclaimed debut and focused it into a mammoth record.

Real Deal is an album about being plunged back into normal life, acceptance, self assurance, searching for connection and finding comfort in chaos. The singles Don’t, Cold Caller, Pretty Girls and Ghost are each, in their own right, the most exciting Honeyglaze songs to date. Don’t is based on Anouska Sokolow’s favourite Destiny’s Child song: Bills, Bills, Bills.

Don’t was written after the end of a particularly bad relationship and I had this anger at every man I felt had ever wronged me or spoken down to me,” she says. “It’s really fun to be aggressive and direct sometimes, especially when it’s unexpected.

The band worked with Parquet Courts and Interpol cohort Claudius Mittendorfer and found their live performance being taken to a new level during the recording sessions. “I remember vividly sitting in the control room, (the) atmosphere was calm, bit tired. Noush had just walked into the live room sipping tea to do the vocal take, Claudius had set up this crazy ball & biscuit mic going through some aggressive compressor, Take 1 started to roll and the moment Noush started shouting down that mic, I honestly pissed myself,” Yuri Shibuichi says. “I was genuinely scared of her, certainly the most scared I’d felt during our time at Middle Farm Studios, more than the hairless cat.”
