Classic DVD Review: Various Artists | The Slog Movie

Amateurish production values help this L.A. punk documentary live up to its name.

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Ostensibly a documentary on the fledgling L.A. hardcore scene of the early ’80s, The Slog Movie does into feature performances and commentary from a slew of OGs and/or old fossils like Circle Jerks, T.S.O.L., Fear, Redd Kross and the like. Admirable as that is, it doesn’t really make for much of a movie, per se. Even worse: Unless you’re the world’s biggest punk fan, the amateurish camera work and no-budget production can easily make sitting through this sucker a real … um, you know.
