This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):
California, here they come. Right back where they started from.
As they did on their 2003 debut, Irish expats The Thrills continue their near-fanatical fascination with the sound of ’60s West Coast pop and roots on their sophomore disc Let’s Bottle Bohemia. But amid all the jangly Byrds guitars, Brian Wilson arrangements, nostalgic Burrito Brothers melancholy and creaky Neil Young vocals, the lads expand their worldview a tad this time. And not just with the odd reference to New York or the Kennedy clan — I’m more impressed by the lavish Philly soul strings that give tunes like Whatever Happened to Corey Haim? more class and style than you’d reckon. Granted, it’s still a long way from Bohemia — but if they could bottle it, they’d be set.
