Classic Album Review: 213 | The Hard Way

Snoop, Warren G and Nate Dogg team up for a forgettable batch of West Coast rap.

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

I presume Snoop Dogg’s new outfit 213 is named for the L.A. area code.

Then again, when you make as many albums as Snoop does, it only makes sense to start numbering them. And to call in your homeboys Nate Dogg and Warren G to share the load and add some mellow textures and silky-smooth vocals to your latest samey-sounding batch of low-riding grooves and blunt-fuelled gangsta rap. Betcha Snoop wishes he hadn’t called in Dave Chappelle to do his Rick James impersonation, though.
