This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):
Three remarkable remastered, restored and reissued scores from back in the day when soundtracks were more than just rancid pop corn.
HITS: West Side Story is basically wall-to-wall standards: The Jet Song, Maria, America, Tonight, I Feel Pretty and more. Judy Garland’s A Star is Born features the unforgettable Man That Got Away and the elaborate Born In A Trunk medley. And John Barry’s score for Marlon Brando’s The Chase has all the style and danger of his James Bond soundtracks.
MISSES: Really, shouldn’t these be paired with DVDs of the movies?
EXTRAS: Amazingly, each set comes with some new material, mostly in the form of minor bits of scoring.
