Peanut Butter Mosquito take flight again after nearly two decades with their latest comeback single When I Die — showcasing today on Tinnitist.
After almost 20 years out of the public eye, the reunited Michigan veterans get right down to business with their newest cut, a propulsive horn-laced track that explores the impact of technology on society. With their melodic blend of power-pop, alt-rock, ska-punk, new wave and more, they offer a sound that is simultaneously timeless and refreshing.
Lyrically, When I Die serves as a commentary on the state of communication in today’s world, questioning whether the advancements in technology have truly been beneficial. The band tackles this issue head-on, reminding listeners of the famous line from Jurassic Park: “They were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.”
PBM were formed in high school in Warren, MI, by Nate Castle and Tom Torrento. Transitioning from ska to a blend of rock, pop, jazz, blues and swing, PBM created a unique mix of genres known as the “fuzzy feel-good collection.” The band gained local recognition for their horn-infused rock, clever lyrics and harmonious vocals, coupled with their strong work ethic and on-stage camaraderie.
Their music has reached a global audience through compilations from indie labels like RawFish, LittleGiants, Baby Boom and Honey, reaching Germany, England, Japan, Scotland and France. Their second album One Sip At A Time achieved national distribution in 2006. Their musical journey included an appearance on America’s Got Talent, where their performance of the original song Password propelled them to the semi-finals. They have toured extensively, sharing stages with Tommy James & The Shondells, Blessed Union of Souls, Gavin Degraw, Cherry Poppin’ Daddies and The Presidents of The United States of America.
Currently, PBM are revisiting past hits and crafting new music at Tempermill Studios and Third Man Records. With a focus on expanding their fan base, they eagerly anticipate the next phase of their musical journey. From their humble beginnings to their significant presence in the local music scene, PBM remain true to their originality while embracing growth and change.
