This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):
KISS songs are so simple anyone can play them. Even rock stars.
That’s the concept behind Spin The Bottle, a tribute disc that combines rockers from various bands — Helmet, Styx, Winger, Dokken, WASP and so on — and lets them bash out a batch of KISS classics. Standouts include Dee Snider and co.’s Detroit Rock City, Lemmy’s Shout it Out Loud and a devilish God of Thunder from the strange-bedfellows lineup of Melvins’ Buzz Osbourne, guitarist Bruce Kulick, Rob Zombie bassist Blasko and drummer Carmine Appice. But most of the cuts — including Winnipeg ’rassler Chris Jericho’s assault on King Of The Night Time World — don’t add up to more than the sum of their parts. It just goes to show: Anyone really can play KISS songs — badly.
