For the third sneak peek at his upcoming summertime homecoming album A Flat City, the one-man blues firestorm does double duty with a track that serves two distinctly dynamic purposes: 1 | It pays well-deserved homage to Winnipeg’s venerated Windsor Hotel, a 120-year-old musical landmark that burned to the ground in 2023; and 2 | It offers some of the best damn dating advice you can get for free:

“Take Your Baby To A Jazz & Blues Bar takes a James Brown approach to the subject of what to do on a first date,” explains Son Of Dave. “In fact, take the whole damned family to a jazz and blues bar.” Sound advice. Speaking of sound, the dependable (and dapper) bluesman flashes his usual honkin’ harmonica and bumptious beatbox trademarks on the track — while adding congas, hints of hip-hop and suitably blazing funk vocals.
Of course, what else would you expect from Son Of Dave? The perennial party machine is loved internationally for his unique sound. Mixing the grittiest of grooves with clever songwriting, he brings the blues kicking into the 21st century with no thievery or pretense.
