Classic Album Review: The Home Team | Stay Calm EP

The regrouped Canadian emo-pop foursome pick up where they left off.

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

WHERE YOU’LL FIND THEM: Coming ’round again.

FILE UNDER: Comeback kids.

LOWDOWN: They say that breaking up is hard to do. Well, it ain’t as tough as regrouping and regaining your momentum. That’s where The Home Team find themselves after nearly imploding a while back. Now inching back to activity with this EP, the emo-pop foursome pick up where they left off on their 2002 disc Time And Place. Lightly crunchy guitars and sprightly punchy beats provide the foundation for literate lyrics, melancholy melodies and yearning vocals on these five solid, if unspectacular cuts. But even if the boys don’t quite swing for the fences this time out, at least the Team are still playing. Happy returns, boys.
