Do you know where you were on the afternoon of Feb. 11, 2012? I do. I was covering the Grammys in Los Angeles. More specifically, I was watching Diana Ross accept a lifetime achievement award. I remember it clearly — because that’s precisely when the Internet started blowing up with reports that Whitney Houston had just been found dead in her room at the Beverly Hills Hilton. About 20 minutes later, I was at the hotel, interviewing fans beside a makeshift memorial on the sidewalk and typing up a story on my BlackBerry. I ended up being there for hours, until the vigilant crowd finally dispersed once coroners removed her body that night. That was a long, sad day. But definitely a memorable one.
