Classic Album Review: Britta Phillips & Dean Wareham | Sonic Souvenirs

The married dream-rockers remix a handful of tracks from their L’Avventura album.

This came out in 2004 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

If you’re like me, you love Luna, the dark-hearted dream-pop combo fronted by former Galaxie 500 singer-guitarist Dean Wareham.

And if you love Luna, you probably adored L’Avventura, an exquisite collection of languidly paced, lushly textured duets between Wareham and Luna bassist Britta Phillips (who also happens to be his wife). And if you adored L’Avventura, you’ll probably cherish Sonic Souvenirs, which takes half a dozen of that album’s superb little gems and remixes them, keeping most of the decadent wooze and narcoleptic seduction intact, but gently massaging them into breathy little come-ons that seduce you all over again. That is, if you’re like me.
