Classic Album Review: The Adjusters | Before The Revolution

The Chicago ska septet cast a wide stylistic net on this near-masterpiece.

This came out in 1998 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

The ska is definitely not the limit for this Chicago septet, and the results are revolutionary — not to mention far out, right on, solid and just plain outta sight.

On top of a roots-reggae base, this crack combo ladle heaping helpings of Stax/Volt soul, Motown melody, Booker T. organ, James Brown funk, hip-hop, jazz and anything else that comes to mind. The result: Finger-popping, toe-tapping grooves will rock your world and blow your mind. A near-masterpiece.
