Classic DVD Review: Avril Lavigne | My World

It's easy to feel torn by the teenage pop-rock phenom's disappointing live DVD.

This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

You might very well find yourself torn when it comes to teen pop-rock phenom Avril Lavinge’s My World, a two-hour DVD featuring a live gig and the usual assortment of backstage footage, videos and photos.

On the one hand, Avril comes off as a woefully inept performer, with 1) A surprisingly poor voice; 2) A rather sullen attitude; 3) No discernible charisma whatsoever. On the other hand: 1) She’s just a teenager and deserves a break; 2) Your kids won’t know the difference; 3) No matter how much she might suck, she’s still a better role model than many of the other bubble-pop queens out there.
