Floral Image administer a double-strength dose of psychedelia with their two-sided single and video Chance / Feel Around You — showcasing today on Tinnitist.
Continuing their mission to bring fuzzy motorik psych to the masses, the Norwich indie-rockers weave together filthy fuzz, worm-like melodies and mechanical krautrock to create a fabric that warps space and time on their latest releases. Chance / Feel Around You was produced by the band, expertly recorded and mixed by Dylan Barber at Fine City Recording Studio in Norwich, and magically mastered by Grammy nominee Joe Carra at Australia’s Crystal Mastering (King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Pond, Babe Rainbow).
“Being the sort of lads prone to long, spiralling, mesmeric sounds we approached Chance fresh as a five-piece band with an opportunity to layer an ever-changing scope of melodious synchronicity over the top of a continuous and unrelenting rhythmic pound,” the band say. “The one repeating mantra of Chance was the only lyrical choice to stay from its earliest incarnations as a roving and motorik piece. It’s only our undying love of the popular music format that made us think it to be necessary to plop some verses in there to tie it all together.
“Feel Around You came from more lonesome origins in a solo demoing session where Jack (Warner) was testing out his recently purchased 1970s Japanese bass. Jack alone in his cold-box room on a wintery evening in his dressing gown, tipping the scales in favour of riff action as opposed to vocal content.”
Since their emergence in 2019, Floral Image have presented and exposed psychedelic rock with ferocity, articulacy, and a near-hedonistic sense of revelry. Amalgamating the pumping acid house grooves of the mid-’90s with the spluttering drive of early ’70s psychedelic titans Hawkwind, as well as a wistful dash of brightness from modern neo-psych acts like King Gizzard and Babe Rainbow, Floral find a luscious existence in carefully measured chaos.
Following the release of their first singles, they have sold out shows across their home country, delivering sets that spiral audiences into trancelike, whirl-pooling euphoria. Preceding a sellout headline tour this year, they released their debut EP So Synthesised.
