Classic Album Review: Beach Boys | Sounds of Summer

Need nearly every essential track from Brian Wilson & co. in one place? Here it is.

This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

THE ORIGINAL RELEASE DATES: 1962-1988.

THE BACK STORY: The Beatles did it. Elvis Presley did it. Now Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys are hoping to jump on the anthology gravy train with Sounds of Summer, which collects 30 original hits by the consummate California surf-pop combo.

THE GOODIES: Pretty much every essential Beach Boys cut, from early ditties like Surfin’ Safari and mid-period masterpieces like Good Vibrations to latter-day hits like Kokomo.

THE BONUS: Nothing. Thankfully, nothing could make this more essential than it already is.
