Classic Album Review: AC/DC | Back In Black

The band's mega-selling debut with Brian Johnson is arguably THE classic rock LP.

This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Warner’s loss is a metal fan’s gain. When Australian riff-rock legends AC/DC recently signed a deal with Sony, they took their catalog along. Over the coming months, most of it is getting refurbished and re-released. Here’s the first batch. For those about to rock, we salute them.

AC/DC
Back In Black

FIRST RELEASED: 1980.

HIGHLIGHTS: It doesn’t get better than this. Recorded mere months after Bon Scott’s death, the band’s mega-selling first release with frontman Brian Johnson is arguably THE classic rock album, with a lineup of perfectly executed headbangers like Hells Bells, Have a Drink On Me, What Do You Do For Money Honey, the hip-shaking You Shook Me All Night Long and, of course, the hard-hitting title cut. If you don’t own this album, I would keep that information to yourself.

EXTRAS! EXTRAS! This edition has a double gatefold sleeve, an embossed cover — and for Kenny Shields fans, a pic of a ticket stub for an AC/DCStreetheart gig from 1980.
