Classic Album Review: Various Artists | Romantic Piano Adagios

Classy is always good. And nothing says classy like some classical, um, classics

This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

If music be the food of love, there’s no reason to go hungry at this time of year. As always, there are plenty of new Valentine’s Day albums on the racks to help you get something cooking at your own romantic feast this weekend. Here’s one of them. Now go get ’em, tiger.

COME-ONS: Classy is always a good approach. And nothing says classy like Romantic Piano Adagios, two CDs loaded with classical, um, classics like Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, Chopin’s Nocturne and Debussy’s Clair De Lune, along with concertos from Mozart, Rachmaninov, Bach, Schubert and Grieg.

TURN-ONS: No lyrics to distract you from each other. Plus, you feel smarter just listening to it.

TURN-OFFS: With more than 150 minutes of music here, you’d better pace yourself.

GOES WITH: Gourmet food, tuxedos, fine wine, romantic poetry, candleabras, truffles.
