Rivers Cuomo and co. wrap up their year-long series of seasonal EPs with the fourth and final instalment Winter. Cuomo has said it will be stylistically similar to the works of Elliott Smith — “lots of loss and despair and kind of quiet.” He also claims “Winter sounds more like the original pre-Blue album Weezer then The Blue Album does. There hasn’t been this much acoustic guitar and fingerpicking in Weezer since our first year together.” Presumably that’s a good thing? If you happened to be at the Troubadour in West Hollywood this fall to catch the band playing a secret show under the name Goat Punishment, you’ve already heard these songs.
