Classic EP Review: Sam Roberts | The Inhuman Condition

The Montreal rocker makes his solo debut with an impressive set of power-pop.

This came out in 2002 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Great pop singers and songwriters are like friends — even if you know plenty of them, it never hurts to meet one more.

Sam Roberts might be the next one you should make your acquaintance. This Montrealer and former member of popsters Northstar makes his solo debut with The Inhuman Condition, an impressively strong sampler of his tightly crafted power-pop. Produced by Blinker The Star mastermind Jordon Zadorozny, these six tracks balance the snappy songcraft, gritty guitars and multi-layered harmonies of Sloan with touches of contemporary Britpop a la The Beatles and Oasis. With a combination like that, how can he lose?
