Classic EP Review: Elvis Vs. JXL | A Little Less Conversation

The first official Elvis remix upgrades a late-'60s throwaway for the new millennium.

This came out in 2002 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

A full 25 years after he went to that big buffet in the sky — or did he? — Elvis Presley is back in the building in a big way. And a whole new way.

A Little Less Conversation, a throwaway track from the late ’60s, was dexterously deconstructed and remixed by Junkie XL for some Nike TV spots this summer. From the cowbell-clanking funk-rock groove to the trippy, loopadelic production, this number — the first official Elvis remix — slyly upgrades the Pelvis for the new millennium. This three-cut EP brings you a radio version, an extended dance mix and the original track so gramps doesn’t have to wind up the Victrola any more. Long live the king.
