Late-Night TV Music (Full Plate Edition) | Sept. 20/21, 2021

St. Vincent, Leon Bridges, Lola Young and the rest of the recent appearances.

It may not be a full life, but it’s definitely a full plate: Lately I spend my days trying to keep up with the endless tide of new singles, videos, EPs and albums — and then spend my nights trying to keep up with the endless tide of new TV shows, specials and movies.

Something’s gotta give — and for me, usually it’s the late-night talk shows, which often end up getting recorded and then tossed out the next morning like old leftovers. Thankfully, YouTube is always there when I want to reheat the musical performances I missed. Like St. Vincent checking into The Nowhere Inn while her bandmates wig out on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Or Leon Bridges firing up his soulful Motorbike on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Or rising U.K. phenom Lola Young (who I’ve included in plenty of mixtape and roundup posts), making her big-time TV debut on The Late Late Show With James Corden. Toss in Monday offerings from Meek Mill and The Lumineers and it’s not a bad way to play catchup. Now I just have to get through the other 320 clips in my YouTube queue, along with the 225 emails that have come in since last night …
