Does the world need another Jim Morrison documentary? Probably not. But it looks like it’s getting one anyway.
According to today’s news, a new as-yet-untitled film about the late Doors frontman is in production, authorized by the singer’s estate. It promises to unearth some previously unseen personal diaries and home movies, which could be interesting — assuming it also resists the temptation to fall into the same old mythologizing bullshit that seems to be mandatory whenever you’re talking about Mr. Mojo Rising. In any case, there’s enough there for publicist and commentator Eric Alper and I to chat about for five minutes in today’s Sonic Reducers segment. Join us as we discuss the new Morrison doc, debate the need for the just-announced memoir from Doors guitarist Robbie Krieger, and wonder whether Morrison’s brand of rebellion will ever go out of style (Spoiler Alert: It won’t). Sonic Reducers: One topic. Two music nerds. Five minutes. Everything you need to know.
