This came out in 2001 — or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):
Golden Throats meets the Golden Globes in this set of tunes crooned, marooned and impugned by silver-screen stars.
Compiled to raise money for an animal shelter — hence the title — Hollywood Goes Wild! exists for those who have a strange need to hear Jeff Goldblum try on lounge-lizard jazz, Mare Winningham get folky, and Billy Bob Thornton indulge his roots-rock aspirations. Luckily, there are a few ringers in the lineup — Johnny Depp plucks guitar behind Iggy Pop on the unreleased Hollywood Affair, and Bijou Phillips and Keanu Reeves’ Dogstar are at least semi-legitimate musicians. The pick of the litter, surprisingly, is Russell Crowe and his band 30 Odd Foot of Grunts, whose moody rocker The Photograph Kills is a tolerable INXS knockoff. As for the rest, don’t hold your breath for the sequel.
