Martin Kerr shares a tale of Delicate Love with the help of Josh Sahunta on their new duet single — premiering exclusively on Tinnitist.
A powerful piano-pop ballad ode to redemption, love and moving forward, the passionately soaring track — whose rich melodies and lush arrangement are graced with everything from light-fingered guitar curlicues to tasteful electronics — comes from Kerr’s upcoming album Grateful, a collection of Canadian duets.
Kerr has plenty of reasons to be grateful. It’s been a crazy few years. In 2017 he went from busking on street corners to selling out his own major theatre shows, opening for Sarah McLachlan at a stadium and seeing his album land in the Canadian Top 10. It was an arrival of sorts for this globe-trotting singer-songwriter, who has racked up passport stamps from 35 countries on his musical travels.
Often compared to James Taylor and more recently Ed Sheeran (although that might have more to do with his ginger hair and charming English accent), Kerr’s storytelling spans the whole spectrum of emotions. His powerful voice and songwriting have earned him high praise from legends like McLachlan and Bruce Cockburn. Kerr explains, “You have to make people laugh before you make them cry. To see people experience such a range of feelings with me at my live shows is my favourite thing about being a musician. I always try to send people home with a happy heart.”
Or keep them at home. Kerr may have played the most shows of anyone in the world last year, clocking in more than 250 performances via his Stay-Home Street-Concerts (the fun, safe way to enjoy live music in your own neighbourhood). As he puts the finishing touches on Grateful, he’s continuing to book more shows.
His Delicate Love duet partner hasn’t exactly been quiet either. Sahunta’s current single Wanting has received recent support from Pete Tong and MistaJam on BBC Radio 1 in the U.K. and from Tiesto on his weekly podcast. He was also recently selected in the top 10 from over 1,500 applicants in the 2020 CBC Searchlight music competition.
