No matter how much the world — and the music industry — have changed in the past few months, one thing will always be the same: The months before Christmas are always crammed with new titles. And new old titles.
In just the past couple of days, another big whack of box sets and anthologies were announced, including a deluxe edition of Tom Petty’s Wildflowers album, the latest expanded reissue from The Fall, a 50th-anniversary version of The Doors’ Morrison Hotel, a 35th-anniversary rerelease of Fear’s More Beer and plenty of others. But the one that I’ll be snagging first is Thin Lizzy: Rock Legends, a six-CD/DVD box with nearly 160 previously unreleased tracks and rarities from the Irish rockers led by the late, great Phil Lynott. That it coincides with the new Lynott documentary Songs For While I’m Away (check out the trailer below) is just icing on the whole cake. But hey, that’s me.
