Late-Night TV Music (Slow Start Edition) | Nov. 25, 2019

Brittany Howard, Noah Cyrus, Pardison Fontaine and more kick off the week.

Some weeks start out slow and then build. When it comes to late-night TV’s musical offerings, this week is clearly living up to the first half of that sentence. Monday’s performances were a decidedly unremarkable affair — Alabama Shakes frontwoman Brittany Howard basically vamped her way through the number History Repeats on Jimmy Kimmel Live, leading her solo band through an extended funk jam. Rappers Pardison Fontaine and Offset offered a garden-variety medley of the former’s tunes Under8ed and Take It Down on The Late Late Show With James Corden. And the completely inessential Noah Cyrus roped in the otherwise-credible soul singer Leon Bridges for her instantly forgettable ditty July on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. I’d like to tell you things should improve from here on out, but with American Thanksgiving taking over the airwaves, the economy and pretty much everything else in a few days, I’d probably be lying. So this is most likely to be one of those weeks that start slow — and then peter out from there. Sorry.
