So close and yet so far. For the first time in weeks, all five of the major talk-show hosts were back on the job Monday — but since The Late Show With Stephen Colbert closed with a comedian, we’re still waiting to see a full slate of late-night musical performers. Even so, the acts who were around held up their ends of the bargain. Supergroup Red Hearse — featuring singer Sam Dew, multi-talented multi-tasker Jack Antonoff and producer Sounwave — tabled their single Half Love for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The 1975 took over the desk for their performance of I Like America & America Likes Me on The Late Late Show With James Corden. Country-popster Kane Brown celebrated Short Skirt Weather on Late Night With Seth Meyers. And MVP bassist-turned-bandleader Tal Wilkenfeld unveiled two songs from her album Love Remains — Killing Me and Corner Painter — on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Close enough for me.
