Late-Night TV Music (Mellow Monday Edition) | April 29, 2019

Craig Finn, Mac Demarco, G-Eazy and Avril open the week in laid-back fashion.

It was a fairly laid-back Monday for music on the late-night talk shows. And a fairly varied one to boot. For my money, the song of the night was Hold Steady frontman Craig Finn’s horn-and-female-vocal-topped version of his new single Something to Hope For on Late Night with Seth Meyers. If you were looking for something a little more hipster-friendly, you might have preferred Mac DeMarco crooning All of Our Yesterdays on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Meanwhile, hip-hop fans could have done worse than G-Eazy’s slow-rolling, star-studded and stylish performance of West Coast on Jimmy Kimmel Live, joined by Blueface and ALLBLACK. Finally, the classic pop and rock lovers in the house could enjoy the return of Avril Lavigne, singing her power ballad I Fell in Love With the Devil — wonder what the Chadster has to say about that one? — on The Late Late Show With James Corden. All in all, not a bad way to start the week.
