Delyn Grey is your Disappointment Girl in her cathartic and confessional new single and video — premiering exclusively on Tinnitist.
“This song established my sound — and basically birthed Delyn Grey,” explains the dark-hearted Toronto singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist of the industrial-tinged modern-rock track. “For a few years, I was writing Indie/pop music, but knew it wasn’t what I wanted. I was good at it, and tried my best to connect with what I was writing — but never could to the fullest. I wrote lighter, pop genre music out of fear of disappointing those closest to me with songs of depression, darkness, unhappiness and dismay — which is what I was.
“I stuck to creating what was safe and ultimately ended up damaging myself significantly in the process. I broke down in a vocal lesson, the day before Disappointment Girl came out of me. It wasn’t until my vocal coach summoned my demons out of me, that I realized what I had been doing to myself. Disappointment Girl is me taking ownership of how I perceive myself and how I expect others to perceive me.
“This song has evolved over two years, and I continue to find new, sometimes deeper, meanings behind my original lyrics. This song was co-produced with Justin Abedin and Gavin Brown, and their incredible talents brought this song to life. This song taught me how to write for me.”
