Late-Night TV Music (Morrissey & More Edition) | Nov. 7, 2018

The Moz, Milk Carton Kids, William Elliott Whitmore and more keep it interesting.

You can’t depend on much in this life. But you can always count on Morrissey to keep it interesting. And keep people guessing. On Wednesday night, the mercurial former Smiths frontman pulled that off once again by showing up on The Late Late Show with James Corden to cover The PretendersBack on the Chain Gang (above). Why did he make this song a bonus track on the deluxe edition of last year’s Low in High School? Why is it his latest single instead of a new original? Why does he make his band dress like that? Who knows? Just be glad he actually showed up. And Moz wasn’t the only decent late-night musical offering. Over on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, CCM singer Lauren Daigle made her late-night debut with the Caribbean-scented Look Up Child. Jimmy Kimmel Live hosted retro-folk duo The Milk Carton Kids, who channelled the sounds of Simon and Garfunkel and Jim Croce with a two-song performance of Younger Years and All the Things … And finally, William Elliott Whitmore ticked both the folk music and cool covers boxes on Last Call With Carson Daly, playing his own Johnny Law along with a stripped-down take on Bad Religion’s Don’t Pray On Me. Ball’s in your court, Morrissey.
