This came out in 2005 — or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):
The magnificently moody Mozzer’s long-awaited comeback You Are The Quarry was one of my favourite albums of last year — and one of his best albums in more than a decade. This Deluxe Version makes it even better — or at least significantly longer — with a treasure trove of leftover tunes and a DVD of videos and live footage.
FIRST RELEASED: May 2004.
HIGHLIGHTS: On the original disc, Irish Blood, English Heart, I Have Forgiven Jesus and First Of The Gang To Die are all outstanding, although for my money you can’t top the opening lines of America Is Not The World: “America, your head’s too big / Because America, your belly’s too big.”
EXTRAS! EXTRAS! The CD has nine excellent B-sides, split between rockers like Don’t Make Fun Of Daddy’s Voice and It’s Hard To Walk Tall When You’re Small, and wry ballads like My Life Is A Succession Of People Saying Goodbye and The Never-Played Symphonies. The DVD has two videos for Irish Blood, English Heart, three live songs from The Late Late Show last summer, and some tour photos.
