The Secret Radio relax by their Swimming Pool On Mars on their new single — showcasing today on Tinnitist.
Combining artful storytelling with dynamic instrumentation, the New York band’s latest release from their debut album Shortwave illustrates the band’s signature balance of melody and emotional profundity. It welcomes you into a world where rock meets dreamlike storytelling, with infectious energy taking center stage.
Opening with a bold piano motif, Swimming Pool On Mars immediately sets a dramatic and immersive tone. As the song progresses, steady drums enter, locking in a rhythm alongside crisp guitar hooks. Damian Fowler’s vocals stand out with a raw yet melodic intensity, guiding you through a surreal narrative. As layers build, the track becomes increasingly cinematic, with sweeping instrumentation and emotive swells pulling you deeper into its world.
Formed in Queens in 2006, The Secret Radio reflect their borough’s diversity. Led by English singer-songwriter Fowler and featuring a rotating cast of international musicians, the band’s distinctive sound fuses atmospheric arrangements with sharp lyrics, evoking influences such as David Bowie, Radiohead and Regina Spektor.
Swimming Pool On Mars features contributions from Bebbo (guitar), Asen Doykin (synths), JungSang Yoo (bass) and Tom Cottone (drums). The album Shortwave was co-produced and mixed by Asen Doykin. Other personnel on the album include Martin Doykin (bass), Oskar Haggdahl (drums), Jane Kittredge (violins), Naeemah Z. Maddox (backing vocals), Dean Olsher (accordion) and Nick Vayenas (horns). Mastering was handled by Adrian Morgan at Timeless Mastering.
