THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “How would you characterize the sound of Southeast L.A.? The Altons, natives of the region, combine dust kicked up from backyard parties with evening listening sessions, evoking a sound that veers far from the shadows.
The Altons curate a ballad of retro-indie-soul that has captivated local audiences for several years, quickly driving them to become a staple of the scene. Their distinct sound caught the attention of Daptone Records co-founder Gabe Roth, who was in the process of starting Penrose Records, a subsidiary label highlighting the emerging soul scene in Southern California.
After several wildly popular singles alongside Penrose labelmates Thee Sacred Souls, The Altons gear up to release their debut album on Daptone. With lead vocals shared between Adriana Flores and Brian Ponce, the interplay between their unique timbres brings a romantic quality to the music that is absent in many of today’s soul offerings.
Steeped with moody ballads, soulful, Tejano-kissed duets and Bond theme psychedelia, Heartache In Room 14 is poised to be a “must-have” album of 2025.”
