Feb. 9 is a big day in The Beatles’ story. First and foremost, of course, on this day in 1964, The Fab Four made their life-changing, earth-shaking U.S. TV debut on The Ed Sullivan Show. But it doesn’t stop there. Three years earlier in 1961, the band played their first gig at The Cavern Club as The Beatles after dropping the word Silver from their handle. In 1982, George Harrison gave UNICEF $9 million raised by his star-studded Concert For Bangladesh. And in 2009, Ringo Starr became the 2,401st person to have a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. In non-Beatles news for Feb. 9, Texas troubadour Joe Ely turns 78, singer-songwriter Carole King is 83… and, oh yeah, there are more than 435 new albums, EPs, singles, box sets, compilations, anthologies, retrospectives, soundtracks, vinyl reissues and cassettes coming out next week.
